Dog Vaccines: Needed and Necessary for Dog Boarding San Diego

Pet owners spend significant time worrying about their pets’ needs prior to dog boarding San Diego. You may stress about whether or not your dog will be happy in your absence. You might fret about whether or not your pet will sleep or eat their food. You may even be concerned about their safety when you can’t be there to watch over them. Choosing an excellent dog hotel is the first step to allaying these concerns. However, you may easily forget some preparatory measures you will need prior to boarding your dog at a high-quality facility – vaccinations.

Excellent dog hotels put your dog’s health and safety first. That’s why vaccinations are needed and necessary prior to boarding. Different dog boarding facilities may have differing requirements, but Fon Jon Pet Care requires the following vaccines: Rabies, Bordetella, DAPP, Leptospirosis, and K9 Influenza.

Rabies Vaccine

Why Are They Necessary?

Rabies is a disease that is transmitted from animal to animal and, unfortunately, it’s 100% fatal to dogs. There’s no cure for a dog that contracts rabies, making vaccination the only way to protect dogs from this disease.

How Often Are They Administered?

Dogs receive a rabies vaccine their first year and a booster every three years.

What Are The Side Effects?

This vaccine may cause your dog to become lethargic on the day of and one day after it is administered. He may experience some diarrhea or vomiting. He may also be tender and even a bit swelled at the injection site. You should offer your dog food and water as usual, though he may not be hungry.

Bordetella Vaccines

Why Are They Necessary?

Also known as kennel cough, Bordetella can be spread from dog to dog in a boarding environment. Only vaccination can prevent your four-legged friend from catching the disease.

How Often Are They Administered?

Most dogs need yearly boosters, but you should always check with your veterinarian.

What Are The Side Effects?

Similar to the rabies vaccine, your dog may become lethargic the day he is vaccinated and one day after it is administered. He may experience some diarrhea or vomiting. He may also be tender and even a bit swelled at the injection site. You should offer your dog food and water as usual, though he may not be hungry.

DAPP Vaccines

Why Are They Necessary?

DAPP is a vaccine that protects against Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvo. These are viruses that commonly affect dogs and are highly contagious. The best way to protect your dog from these viruses is through vaccination.

How Often Are They Administered?

Starting when your dog is 8 weeks old, this vaccine requires 3 boosters administered 3 weeks apart. After the third booster, this vaccine is good for one year. After the first year, the DAPP vaccine is typically administered every 3 years.

What Are The Side Effects?

Typical side effects may include lethargy the day your dog is vaccinated and one day after vaccination. He may also experience some diarrhea or vomiting. He may also be tender and even a bit swelled at the injection site. You should offer your dog food and water as usual, though he may not be hungry.

Leptospirosis Vaccines

Why Are They Necessary?

Leptospirosis is a bacteria that spreads through soil, water, and the urine of animals infected with this bacteria. If your dog contracts this bacteria, it must be caught early or the consequences may be deadly. In addition to this, Leptospirosis is a bacteria that can be spread from animals to people.

How Often Are They Administered?

Starting when your dog is 16 weeks old, this vaccine requires 1 booster administered 3 weeks after the initial vaccination. After the booster, this vaccine is good for one year and is typically administered every year after that.

K9 Influenza Vaccines

Why Are They Necessary?

This vaccine protects your dog against Canine Influenza Virus H3N2and H3N8 infections.

How Often Are They Administered?

Starting when your dog is 16 weeks old, this vaccine requires 1 booster administered 3 weeks after the initial vaccination. After the booster, this vaccine is good for one year and is typically administered every year after that.
