Here at Fon Jon Dog Boarding and Daycare of San Diego, we know the importance of pet cleanliness, and we also know that grooming your pet yourself isn’t always easy. This is why we have a full-time pet groomer on staff who is here to provide all of your dog grooming or cat grooming needs, such as bathing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, brushing, and de-shedding. Whether your pet just needs a basic bath or a full spa day of treatment, we’re here to provide it for you!

While we do accept walk-in grooming appointments, making an appointment ahead of time is preferred. Dog grooming or cat grooming services can also be added to any dog boarding, cat boarding, or dog daycare reservation. We like to recommend pet grooming on the last day of pet boarding to ensure your camper comes home clean.

Please note that all prices are just a base price. Price may change based on the camper’s coat condition, mats, etc.

Fon Jon’s is the best!  Our German Shepherd mix, Chika, loves the staff and comes home exhausted after daycare (which is great for us!). How often should I bring my dog in for grooming?

It depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, and activity level. Generally, dogs with longer or thick  coats may need grooming every 4-6 weeks, while shorter-haired breeds may only require  grooming every 6-8 weeks. Regular brushing at home can also help extend the time between  professional grooming appointments.

What should I do to prepare my dog for their grooming appointment?

It’s helpful to bring your dog in with a clean, dry coat. If your dog has any matting, please let us  know in advance so we can plan for extra time and discuss solutions. Also, try to keep your dog  on a regular exercise schedule before their appointment to help them stay calm during the  grooming process.If your dog requires any medication or has specific health needs, please  inform us ahead of time so we can plan accordingly and ensure their safety and comfort during  grooming.

Can grooming help with my dog’s skin or coat problems?

Yes! Regular grooming can help maintain a healthy coat and skin by removing dirt, debris, and  dead hair, as well as stimulating the skin. If your dog has specific skin issues, like dryness or  irritation, let us know during the appointment, and we can use specialized shampoos and  conditioners to help. Always consult your vet for more specific skin concerns.

How often should I get my dog’s nails trimmed?

The frequency of nail trims depends on your dog’s activity level and how quickly their nails grow.  Typically, dogs need a nail trim every 3-4 weeks. Active dogs that walk on hard surfaces may  naturally wear down their nails more, potentially requiring less frequent trims. However, if you  hear your dog’s nails clicking on the floor or notice them getting too long, it’s a sign that they  need a trim. Regular nail maintenance is important to prevent overgrowth, discomfort, and  potential injury.

Does my dog need a Furminator or deshedding treatment?

If your dog has a thick, double coat or sheds heavily, they may benefit from a Furminator or  deshedding treatment. These treatments help remove loose undercoat hair, reducing shedding  and minimizing matting. Breeds like German Shepherds, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, and  Shelties often benefit from this type of grooming. Regular deshedding can also help keep your  home cleaner and prevent excessive hair buildup. The frequency of deshedding treatments  depends on your dog’s coat and shedding pattern, but typically, it’s recommended every 4-6  weeks.

Can my dog(s) get groomed while boarding with you?

Yes, we offer grooming services for dogs while they are boarding with us! If you’d like your dog  to be groomed before coming home, simply let us know when you drop them off or inform our  staff in advance. We can schedule a grooming session for your dog during their stay, whether  it’s a full grooming, bath, nail trim, or just a quick touch-up. This way, your dog can return home  feeling fresh and clean!

What grooming or bathing services do you offer?

Do I need to book an appointment in advance?

To ensure we have your and your pet’s up-to-date info and vaccines, we recommend calling ahead of time. Some days we have same-day availability.

Can my dog be groomed while boarding or at daycare?

Yes.

What products do you use on the dogs? Are they hypoallergenic?

We use Fresh Pet shampoo and conditioner and Hydra Pet cologne. We do have oatmeal and hypoallergenic options.

Will you groom aggressive or nervous dogs?

We will try to do as much as your pet allows.

What cleaning supplies do you use? Are they pet safe?

We use Triple Two, which is specifically formulated for pet facilities.

How long does grooming typically take?

Nail trims take about 10 to 15 minutes, while haircuts can take up to 3 to 4 hours. Depending on your selected service, plan for your pet to be with us for a few hours.

How do you prevent the spread of illness (kennel cough, etc.)?

While we do require all pets to be vaccinated and disinfect our kennels all day, every day, we cannot prevent illness 100 percent. Just as your child goes to school and comes home with a cold, it is common for pets as well. We notify the owner as soon as we see any sign of illness and require the pet to be picked up as soon as possible to prevent spreading.

Do you require flea or tick prevention?

While we do not require it, we do spray for fleas and ticks at our facility, and recommend a regular dose be given to your pet.

Do you offer nail trims, teeth brushing, anal glands, etc.?

Yes.

Are staff trained in animal CPR or first aid?

Yes.
